Mountain and meadow hiking

Challenging hiking trails and mountain tours with stunning views await you in the hiking region Gitschberg. For a hike to the lakes Seefeld you need to walk almost four hours. You overcome some 950 altitude meters, and on the way you will pass the Great, Middle and Little Seefeld Lake. A demanding hike takes you from Maranza to the romantic Fane Alm and to the lodge Brixner Hütte. The alpine hike extends over a length of 11.5 kilometres and passes through deep forests and lush green meadows.

Families with children in the hiking region Gitschberg will find a variety wonderfully situated family trails that even the youngest will handle effortlessly. They are lined with numerous alpine pastures, inviting you to take a rest on a sun-drenched outdoor terrace. The family hiking trails include just a few altitude meters. One of the most attractive tours is the circular trail Altafossa. The Altafossa Valley is only three kilometres from the Hotel Pfeiferhof – starting point is the parking lot in the village.

In addition to the family hiking trails, there are 4 family parks:

Gitschberg Sun Park: this is located at the mountain terminal of the Nesselbahn lift and leads up to the Gitschhütte
Jochtal Adventure Park: this park starts at the mountain terminal Jochtal and leads up to the panoramic platform “Stoanermandl”
Recreational area Bunker Spinges: located just above the village of Spinges
Activity Park Terento: located in the centre of Terento

However, there is so much more to find for hiking friends in the surroundings of Maranza: The hiking area around Mount Gitschberg is part of the hiking region Isarco Valley, which is also called “Valley of the Paths”. It offers many experience & adventure trails, which provide plenty of interesting information about the mining and rural life. On 33 itineraries, you may, for example, explore the Naz-Sciaves apple plateau, the villages around Bressanone or the old town of Chiusa and the Isarco Valley Dolomites. You may hike at all altitudes and change from cultural landscapes into the rough mountains, through dark forests, river landscapes, vineyards, and fruit gardens.
